Twenty-five years ago, Les McNeill initiated a marvelously brazen act. With $5,300 and the unabashed belief that she could improve the status of women in the Greater Cincinnati area, she created the Women’s Fund.
Today, this trailblazing organization is designing a community where all women can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential. The Women’s Fund has produced groundbreaking research that has advanced the conversation in our community. They have invested more than a million dollars in organizations supporting women. They are advancing gender parity on civic boards through the Appointed program, and their Employer Toolkit is used nationwide by companies looking to support their lower-wage workforce. In 2019, the Women’s Fund helped Cincinnati become the first Midwest city to pass a salary history ban, helping women shed historic pay inequities. Les started a movement that is now a force for women’s self-sufficiency. They are proud to carry the torch.
