Everybody in Cincinnati knows that the Reds Opening Day is basically a holiday. No matter who you are or where you go on March 28, baseball will be on the mind. Our hometown team will be facing off against the Washington Nationals at 4:10 p.m., but the spirit of Opening Day is a sunrise to sunset celebration. Here are some of the events where you can get in on the fun.
Bob and Tom Live on Opening Day
If you’re a fan of sports talk radio and you don’t mind mornings, you can spend the very early hours of Opening Day watching a live broadcast of The Bob and Tom Show. They’ll be recording from the new BetMGM Sportsbook at The Banks at 6 a.m. Admission is free, but only the first 200 people in line are guaranteed a spot. 6-9:15 a.m., BetMGM Sportsbook at The Banks, 175 Joe Nuxhall Way, The Banks
The good people at Rhinegeist are prepared for full day of baseball-centric celebration. They open their taproom doors at 9 a.m. with breakfast sandwiches from The Bagelry available for you to buy and get the all-day party going. There will be a giant bobblehead photo booth, themed giveaways, and bar specials going until midnight. 9 a.m.-11:59 p.m., Rhinegeist, 1910 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine
Opening Day in the Cov Street Party
Northern Kentucky is getting in on the Opening Day festivities with their Covington street party hosted by Smoke Justis. Head to the Roebling Point area for a day of live music, drinks, and food. Don’t miss the live ESPN 1530 broadcast by Mo Egger and Tony Pike. 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Court Street and Park Street, Covington
Washington Park Opening Day Celebration
This is one of the best events to attend if you want a great view of the parade. While you wait for it to come by you can enjoy games, inflatables, live music, baseball merch, and food trucks. You’ll also be able to see the WLWT morning news crew’s live parade coverage so say hi to them (when they’re on commercial break.) 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Washington Park, 1230 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine
Reds Community Fund Charity Block Party
The Banks area is always primed and ready to celebrate any and every sporting event. Starting at 11 a.m. you can enjoy drinks, food, live music, activities, and great party atmosphere just steps aways from Great American Ball Park. Proceeds from the event go to the Reds Community Fund. 11 a.m., The Banks
JonJon and Friends Opening Day Bash
Join JonJon and the crew from Kiss 107 for an all-day party at Morlein Lager House and Event Lawn. From noon to 7 p.m. JonJon will be hosting the party while live on air. There will be three different DJs, a ton of food, and Molly Wellmann serving up cocktails. 12-7 p.m., Morlein Lager House, 115 Joe Nuxhall Way, The Banks
Barks and Baseball: A Dog-Friendly Opening Day Party
Dogs love baseball, too! Well they love baseballs. They don’t understand the rules of the game (unless we’re talking about Air Bud of course.) Either way, you can bring your furry friend to Rosedale for a pet-friendly party. You can take cute pics with your dog in the themed photo booth, chow down on hot dogs for only $1 each, and even win tickets to Bark in the Park. 12-8 p.m., Rosedale, 208 E 12th St., Over-the-Rhine
This historic cocktail bar is turning into Japp’s Bullpen to celebrate the season opener. While not open for afternoon parade festivities, Japp’s is focusing on the Reason For The Season, the game itself. They open just in time to show the game at 4:10 p.m. with popcorn-flavored espresso martinis, root beer floats, and free popcorn. Stick around after the game because they’ll be playing baseball movies. 4-11:59 p.m., Japp’s, 1134 Main St., Over-the-Rhine
