The field of medicine in general and pain medicine in particular is at an interesting crossroads. The role of corporations and private equities is well recognized throughout the medical community with more than 50% of solo/private practitioners opting to sell their practices to larger groups, consolidated organizations, and private equities. This often results in a volume driven approach of practicing medicine in a manner most acceptable to the organizations and private equities.
