To all you ladies and gents looking for a civilized pre-theater hangout: Get thee to Obscura. The plush downtown lounge is handy to any number of local entertainment venues (Aronoff Center, Ensemble Theatre, School for Creative and Performing Arts, etc.). It has, among other bells and whistles, a sprawling setup of Euro-style overstuffed chairs arranged in intimate clusters, grand twinkling chandeliers, a huge wine list complete with sparkling and dessert varieties, a coffee and tea menu, and a series of classic cocktails that have been, well, obscured: The Obscura Mule is a genteel take on the humble Moscow Mule and the Clover Clubbed swaps in pomegranate for grenadine and adds ultra froufy berry muffin tea foam on top. Head upstairs for a more masculine, club-style retreat and take in the view of the floor.
