2020 has been quite a year. (How’s that for an understatement?) As we look toward the holidays, many of us are wondering which traditions—if any—to include this year. Finding a holiday event with broad appeal and built-in social distancing that’s (preferably) outdoors is a tall order. Almost as tall as the sculptures at Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park & Museum.

Pyramid Hill is a true hidden gem. It’s tucked away in beautiful Butler County, off a rolling country road. A bright red sculpture stands at the entryway; from there, the hills and valleys of Pyramid Hill’s 300 acres are marked with larger-than-life sculptures that demand to be seen (and admired). There are more than 60 monumental pieces of sculpture in this outdoor art museum that’s set in an environment of meadows, forests, and gardens. Each winter, the museum shines brightly during Holiday Lights on the Hill, a 2.5-mile drive through experience.

Happily, Pyramid Hill’s annual holiday lights display is not only continuing for 2020, it promises to be better than ever. In 2018, Pyramid Hill teamed up with Brave Berlin, the masterminds behind Cincinnati’s BLINK festival, and the result was pure magic. This creative collaboration took Holiday Lights on the Hill to the next level, with bespoke light and sound projections that made for a sublime sensory experience. The continued partnership between Pyramid Hill and Brave Berlin has set the stage for this year’s all-new Journey BOREALIS.

Running November 20–January 3, 2021, Journey BOREALIS will feature more than 1 million twinkling lights set amid the park’s breathtaking backdrop of art and nature. New this year, Pyramid Hill is partnering with Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and Cincinnati Boychoir to create a soundtrack for the light display. This soundtrack, along with Brave Berlin’s dynamic light design, will create an immersive, one-of-a-kind experience that Sean FitzGibbons, Executive Director of Pyramid Hill, hopes will earn the event national attention.

“Incredible momentum is building in support of Journey BOREALIS,” FitzGibbons says. “Over the past two decades, our holiday light show has become a tradition for families to experience from the warmth of their cars. Our community is excited to have this as a safe holiday event for the whole family during these unprecedented times.”

This year, take a step back from the hustle and bustle, from the politics and pandemic, and enjoy a beloved holiday tradition with your family. Journey BOREALIS is a dazzling, memorable holiday event—and a wonderful reminder of what happens when we work together and dream big.

Journey BOREALIS runs nightly (including holidays) from November 20 through January 3, 2021. Admission is $20/carload Monday through Thursday and $25/carload Friday through Sunday. (Member admission is $15 every day.)
