The holiday season brings cheer, joy, and wishes of good tidings. But it also brings the gift of music. This year, get into the festive spirit at the eighth annual Christmas Saengerfest, presented by American Legacy Tours, where you’ll you’ll have the opportunity to watch more than 20 unique musical groups perform in six different locations Dec. 6-7. Before you attend this year’s Saengerfest, here’s what you need to know:
How It All Works
Each venue hosts 30-minute performances. Shows begin at 7 p.m. each night and the last performance of the evening starts at 10 p.m. sharp. No other event in Cincinnati offers the opportunity to experience musical performances in so many different venues. The majority of the locations are within walking distance of each other, but if you don’t want to hit the pavement, there will be a fleet of luxury shuttle buses available between performances.
Where It Takes Place
Saengerfest takes place in six venues—spruced up and decorated for the holidays—in and around Over-the-Rhine. This year, the participating locations include Memorial Hall, St. Francis Seraph Church, First Lutheran Church, OTR Community Church, Prince of Peace Church, and the Christian Moerlein taproom. If you’re bringing the kiddos along, be sure to visit St. Francis Church, which will feature an outside nativity scene with live animals.
It’s Festive Family Fun
Speaking of kids, the holiday season is a time to celebrate and establish new family traditions. Saengerfest is perfect for children because of the event’s short performances, ensuring they’ll be entertained without getting antsy. The best part? Kids ages 12 and under are free to attend with the purchase of one adult admission.
There Will Be Unique Singing Groups
From bands to choirs and everything in between, there’s sure to be a musical group at Saengerfest everyone will enjoy. Listen to something new and attend the performance of the Kanniks & Greater Cincinnati Indian Community Choir, which explores polyphonic avenues and specializes in raga-based music. If you’re looking for some classic holiday tunes, check out the Queen City Concert Band, which will perform timeless songs such as “Sleigh Ride” and “The Polar Express.”
