Address: 5 Stone Snail Ln., Indian Hill
Price: $2,795,000
Indian Hill is known for its top-rated school system and sprawling, private residences. Located on three wooded acres in the high-end neighborhood, 5 Stone Snail Ln. (what a cute image that conjures!) features more than 8,000 square feet of modern-day living juxtaposed with an old-world style that pays attention to important details like wainscoting.
“I think people today are leaning into quality over quantity,” says realtor Scot Avery. “It’s not so much about that ‘McMansion’ thing anymore. That’s kind of gone out of style. It seems like most of my younger clients today would prefer to have less space but higher quality.”

In 2006, Bernie Kurlemann built 5 Stone Snail. His signature was painted domed ceilings, featured throughout the house. “When you walk in the front door, you’re standing underneath a domed ceiling, almost like you’re in a cathedral of some kind,” says Avery. “You have to bend the wood into those round shapes. Same with the front door. It’s an arched doorway. Those are the things that really make it stand out as a custom-built home as opposed to just your typical large home.”
The lower level acts as almost a second residence, with its own entrance, garage, kitchen, and bedrooms—the house has a total of eight, plus six baths. A closet area near the garage entrance on the first floor contains framing for an elevator shaft, which would be helpful for transport heavy goods or furniture up and down with ease, or easy transportation for elderly guests.

The high-ceiling solarium looks out into the woods, exuding the peaceful vibes of an outdoor patio because of its glass walls. “The fourth wall is completely open to the family room,” says Avery. “So it almost feels like you’re in a room without walls.”
The grand kitchen’s appliances, such as the fridge, are built into the cabinetry, and the room leads to a butler’s pantry. The home also contains a state-of-the-art whole-house audio system, solar panels, and a bedroom that the owner turned into a fitness center; he’s willing to leave the exercise machines for the new owner.
“It’s got so many windows in it, you almost feel like you’re outside when you’re in there because one whole wall is mirrors,” says Avery. “It kind of reflects all the light coming in those back windows. It would motivate me to work out more.”
If you don’t want to pump iron, you can take a stroll to a pond at nearby Abbington Ridge and explore the nature.
