Dining rooms are the center of the home. Your family gathers here for an intimate dinner, and your extended family joins you for Thanksgiving dinner.
“It’s where families gather,” says Lin Bertoncini, senior buyer for dining, media, and accessories at Watson’s. “Sharing a meal is one of the biggest social events that families have, and you do that around a dining room table.”
But it may also be the spot where you have your morning coffee. Or where your kids spread out to do homework. Or where you set up to work from home. So how do you make it serve so many purposes?
Here are a few tips on how to create a stylish yet organized, clutter-free dining room space.
How to start?
Create your own dining set. Choose the shape, color, number of chairs, leaf, and more.
“What’s popular now is for people to customize their dining space, so it fits how they use it,” Bertoncini says. “Wood has really become fashionable, and there are more options than ever to make it yours.”
Host holiday dinners or parties often?
Opt for a dining table with a leaf.
“Family of four around the table? Hosting a party for 12? No problem,” Bertoncini says.
Handcrafted, solid wood dining sets from Bermex and an Amish-made line both offer endless options to fit your space—including a self-storing leaf, which fits perfectly inside the table itself.
Using the space as a home office or craft area?
Add a well-matched sideboard, with drawers for additional storage. You can easily organize (or simply hide away) anything from kids’ artwork supplies to paperwork to that mail you still need to read. Bonus: It’s a perfect place to set your wine or your extra food during dinner.
“After things are passed around, most people want to set it down, out of the way,” Bertoncini says, “and not everything you’re serving can fit in the center of the table.”
Where to find locally?
Watson’s all-new 100,000 square foot showroom in Evendale now includes an entire Indoor Living department—with everything from sofas and sectionals to dining tables. The cornerstone of the collection is a Design Your Own program. Customers can create their own indoor furniture, like sofas, sectionals, and dining sets. Choose your own color, size, fabric, and more.
“You’ll end up with handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces made in the U.S. or Canada to your exact specifications,” Bertoncini says. “No one else will have anything else that looks exactly like it.”
