The beloved pumpkin and art festival is back for the 13th year. Hamilton will be filled with rides, games, a pet parade, over 100 food and craft vendors, and every possible pumpkin-based activity you can think of. Indigenous Peoples’ Day Convergence
Urban Native Collective is hosting a weekend of events for Indigenous Peoples’ Day with the theme of Native Resistance. Festivities kick off on Friday with an exhibition opening party at the CAC and 21c. There will be food from Indigenous Chef food truck and performances by DJ Creepingbear and Copper Face United Powwow Dancers. Saturday will feature artists talks at 21c, and on Monday there will be a feast at Jacob Hoffner Park. Check the event site for additional details and activities. Hundreds of women will be racing around Cincinnati on Saturday morning in the Queen Bee Half Marathon. While it’s too late to register, there are plenty of opportunities along the course to watch and cheer on the competitors. You can also join the racers after the finish line for the victory party in Sawyer Point. Be aware of the route and plan your downtown driving accordingly. NKY’s favorite cryptid party is back for the third year on Pike Street between Madison Avenue and Washington Street. Fans of the Loveland Frog, Mothman, Squonk, and more are invited to this all-ages event with artisan vendors, costumes, crafts, face painting, and beer from Fabled Brew Works. Oddtoberfest at Urban Artifact
Celebrate the harvest with Urban Artifact as they freshly tap a keg of their rare Kilobyte fruit tart made with Golden Raspberries exclusively grown for the beer. The day-long party also includes a science talk from the head brewer about the special Golden Raspberries, a vendor market from 1-5 p.m., food from Parts & Labor, and at 8 p.m., “Welcome to Planet Terror,” a horror music experience. Beech Acres Parenting Center is throwing itself a 175th birthday party and the entire city is invited. There will be inflatables, games, mascots from the Reds and FCC, animal encounters from the zoo, a book bank, a petting zoo, circus performers, live music from CSO, free pizza and cupcakes, and even more For the parents, Beech Acres will be leading parenting workshops and panels. Opening Preview Performance of Rutka: A New Musical
The world premiere of indie-rock musical Rutka takes place at Playhouse in the Park’s Rouse Theatre, with a potential trip to Broadway in its future. Based on Rutka’s Notebook: A Voice From the Holocaust, the musical follows a 14-year-old girl living in the Jewish Ghetto of Poland in 1943. This is the first preview performance for the public, and the official opening night is Thursday, October 17. The show is not advised for children under 12 years old. The Mountain Goats are making a stop in Cincinnati on their Rule of Three tour. The indie band best known for songs like “No Children,” “This Year,” and “Up the Wolves,” are playing a more intimate show than usual. While TMG have gone through many musicians and collaborators since their founding in 1991, this tour is just the three core members— John Darnielle, Jon Wurster, and Matt Douglas.
