As homes in hot spots like Hyde Park and Oakley continue to rise in demand and price, prospective buyers are looking into the nearby neighborhoods of Norwood and Pleasant Ridge. The Pleasant Ridge area in particular has become a desirable location for rehabbed homes like this five-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath abode. “The buyer bought this home as a run-down, two-family foreclosure,” says TREO Realtors Broker Owner and listing agent Brett Keppler. “The seller’s goal was to maintain the original charm of the property, but give it some European flair.”

From the outside, this 97-year-old home looks typical for the area: stucco exterior, detached garage, front porch, and a modest front yard. But the inside is nothing short of unique. The kitchen and living room are within view the moment you walk through the front door. “[The owner] undid all of the additional walls,” Keppler says, “and even removed original ones to allow for an open concept throughout the first floor.”

The kitchen, which connects the living space and dining room (and also offers access to an exercise room that could double as a bedroom), is the focal point of the first floor. It features granite countertops, industrial light fixtures (plus ample natural light), sleek cabinets, and a breakfast bar. Another major perk? Every room on the first floor features hard wood floors and new doors, and select rooms showcase wallpaper imported from Albania, where the seller was born.

The staircase to the right of the dining room takes you to the second floor, where you’ll find three bedrooms, including the master suite. According to Keppler, three rooms were converted to create the master suite, which features a walk-in closet, a sitting area, and a spacious bathroom with marble flooring, exposed brick, and a walk-in shower. The home doesn’t stop there, though. The third floor, which is accessed by a private staircase, features an additional bedroom-slash-home office space with a full bath. This space could easily serve as a private guest room or in-law suite.

Outside, the home’s attached and detached garages provide space for three cars. And although the backyard is currently bare, the potential here is endless. There’s plenty of greenspace for a deck or patio, a fire pit, and a playset. Plus, Pleasant Ridge doesn’t disappoint in terms of its bars and eateries, with local favorites like Casa Figueroa (Latin-inspired restaurant), Nine Giant (craft brewery and scratch kitchen), and The Overlook Lodge (hip bar based on Stephen King’s novel The Shining) located less than a 10-minute walk away.
