Burlington Antique Show

176

Once a month, the Boone County Fairgrounds are transformed into a haven for antiquers, collectors, and anyone looking to scatter some vintage finds around their home.

The grounds are filled with vendors hawking glassware, jewelry, kitchen goods, furniture, ephemera, fabrics, architectural antiques, and more. So whether you’re looking for old industrial metal goods, vintage costume jewelry, or, you know, a dresser or a dining room set, chances are very good you will be in luck. Chances are also very good you will leave with more than you intended to buy, but happily so.

And, ed note: Be smarter than me. If you’re going to buy a large vintage filing cabinet, don’t drive down in a tiny car. Really, just don’t do it. Even when you—to the amazement of some very amused vendors—succeed in cramming that thing inside (because, let’s face it, I was not going to lose that battle), it makes for quite the drive back. And if you had a passenger…well, he/she would not be joining for the return trip. Because, priorities.

The show starts at 6 a.m., so go early for the best selection—you’ll be in good company. But don’t worry if you head down later (things wrap up at 3 p.m.) as there are plenty of vendors with plenty on offer, and you can get some serious bargains as remaining hours wane (believe me, that vendor did not want to schlep the filing cabinet back home any more than my friend wanted to help haul it up three flights of steps to my apartment). And walk around; there’s a lot to see.

Go ready with cash—and ready to bargain. ‘Tis the season.
