It’s good to be a Cincinnatian, especially in the summer. Catch pro volleyball, Midpoint and Riverfest preludes, hands-on silk screening, and a “fun and flirty” 5K.

1. AVP Cincinnati Open at Washington Park
Labor day weekend doesn’t only mean fireworks; it also means sporting spectacles, incredible athletes, and—we’ll say it—more than a few beach bums. The Association of Volleyball Professionals brings its 2012 beach volleyball season debut to our very own Washington Park. Aug 31–Sept 2, avpcincyopen.com/

2. Midpoint Indie Summer
September’s Midpoint Music Festival is the headlining event, but organizers also grace the city with an annual summer festival on Fountain Square. Don’t miss hometown heroes from the beloved local band Wussy. Aug 31 on Fountain Square, myfountainsquare.com/

3. One Night One Craft: Silk Screen Printing
CAC is at it again with updated DIY. The museum hosts professionals from Able Projects to help you learn the secrets of silkscreening. Aug 27 at Contemporary Arts Center, contemporaryartscenter.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=250

4. 3rd Annual Fox and Hound 5K
The fastest woman and man to finish this charity race (benefiting United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cincinnati) receive the honor of  “Top Fox” and “Top Hound,” respectively. And ladies get a five-minute head start, if they are so inclined. We’re guessing that’s to keep everyone in good spirits for the after party. Aug 30, Sawyer Point, ucp-cincinnati.org/foxandhound5k.

5. 4th Annual All-Star Blast at the Ballpark
Get the Riverfest party started early. Sign up for this popular pre-fireworks meet-and-greet to get stadium parking, dinner, and the chance to mingle with Reds alums. September 2 at Great American Ball Park, cancersupportcincinnati.org
