5 Fourth of July Events With (Almost) No Fireworks

93

So you’re not into the whole fireworks thing. Or maybe you have a small child or a particularly nervous dog. We found some events this weekend that let you celebrate without all the noise.

LaRosa’s Balloon Glow at Coney Island
Although this event does culminate in a fireworks display, it certainly is not the only reason to partake. LaRosa’s celebrates the Fourth of July a day early with music, hot air balloons, and all the classic Coney Island rides you can handle. July 3, 5-11 p.m., Coney Island, coneyislandpark.com

Fourth of July Dinner Cruise (to Balloon Glow)
For anyone feeling too fancy to drive to Balloon Glow, BB Riverboats offers an alternative form of transportation. The cruise includes picnic-inspired dinner and its destination—Coney Island—allows you to experience the event all the same. Pricing and booking information can be found on their website. July 3, 6:30-11:30 p.m., 101 Riverboat Row, bbriverboats.com

Self Diploma Concert at Fountain Square
Even though there aren’t any official Fourth of July festivities at Fountain Square, check out this weekend’s presentation of the weekly Self Diploma Saturday Concert Series, featuring indie rapper Dave Zup and Cincinnati-based DJ Kev the Goon, among other acts. July 4, 7-11 p.m., Fountain Square, myfountainsquare.com

Colerain Township 4th of July 5K for the Pray Hope Believe Foundation
Start off your Independence Day with a 5K Walk/Run supporting the Pray Hope Believe Foundation and The Cure Starts Now. Money raised from the event will support research to finding a cure for pediatric brain cancer—a good workout for a great cause. July 4, registration at 7 a.m., race begins at 8:30 a.m., Colerain Township Government Complex. Registration and more info found at egovlink.com

Northside Rock N’ Roll Carnival
This totally free carnival features local and national musical acts Thursday through Saturday of the holiday weekend. Daily attractions include a Beer Garden at Hoffner Park and street entertainment (Fire breathers! Sword swallowers!) The parade on Saturday will provide your fix for traditional celebration, but the carnival promises unexpected fun. July 2-4, 6 p.m.-2 a.m., parade July 4 at 12 p.m., northsiderocks.com
