Top 5 Ways to Wish This Winter a Final Goodbye

1. Cheer on the Reds.
Few things signal the coming of Spring in Cincinnati quite like baseball, which makes today’s celebration of Opening Day all the more joyful. The team faces off against the St. Louis Cardinals at 4:10 pm, so hurry down to join the rest of the city (they all called in sick, start coughing!) for the annual parade, which steps off from Findlay Market at noon. If you can’t make it downtown, you can catch the game on ESPN. Parade moves south on Race from Findlay Market, takes a detour on Elm from Liberty to Central Parkway, and then moves back to Race, heading east on Fifth past Fountain Square until it hits Sycamore. findlaymarketparade.com Game is played at Great American Ball Park, 100 Joe Nuxhall Way, downtown, reds.mlb.com

2. Switch salt for sweet.
Our streets have been doused with sodium for months, so the time feels nigh to have some sugar instead. Specifically, a little sugar in the form of a streetpop. The Main Street gourmet popsicle shop is just days out of its winter hibernation. If you like your popsicles smooth and creamy, the chocolate peanut butter swirl and bananas foster are on the short list. For fans of fruit, the Thai basil lime and the cantaloupe mint are both worth a lick. Be not ashamed, frequent ’poppers: Streetpops are made with all fresh (often local and organic) ingredients. 1437 Main St., Over-the-Rhine, streetpops.com

3. Get a little fresh.
Findlay Market’s summer farmers’ market reopens this weekend. The produce, flowers, eggs, and more are all locally grown, and almost all of it is harvested immediately prior to market. You’ll find some prepared foods as well (hello, brick oven pizza). The farm shed will be bustling Saturday 8 am–2 pm and Sunday 10 am–2 pm. 1801 Race St., Over-the-Rhine, findlaymarket.org/farmers-market

4. Cheer on the Cyclones.
How much nicer the ice looks in the rink than on our roads! The Cincinnati Cyclones season is coming to an end, so get there while you can. Thursday night’s game against the Evansville Icemen can help warm you up the old fashioned way: PBR and Miller High Life cans are $1 for fans over 21. Never been before? Just have a quick read here to learn all the ref calls and other hockey lingo, and by game time you’ll be calling boarding like an old pro. 5. Say hello to the lawn.
The civic lawn in Washington Park, that is. This week marks the return of the park’s summer programming. Free fitness classes, a kickball league, and a new-this-year “yappy hour” (dogs and drinks!) make this park the one to be walking in. 1230 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine, washingtonpark.org
