The Cincinnati summer is in full swing with this week’s Top 5 picks: Lace up your sneakers for a good cause, browse local artists in style, nibble on some creepy crawlers, and tango the night away.
Starting this Tuesday night, bust a groove in downtown’s Washington Park with free weekly dance lessons. This week covers swing dancing, while the rest of the schedule ranges from Latin to Afro Caribbean dancing. Grab a partner, slip on your dancing shoes, and enjoy two hours under the beautiful Cincinnati night sky. This little alternative theater festival (produced by the Know Theatre of Cincinnati) turns 10 years old this year. With more than 150 performances of 33 different productions, including Shut Up, Emily Dickinson and We Put the “Fun” in Funeral, there’s something there for everyone. Shake up your traditional Summerfair, Cincinnati’s beloved art festival summer kick-off, by attending the third annual Little Black Dress event. Fashion meets fine arts in a show featuring LBDs from local boutiques accessorized with jewelry, scarves, hats, and bags created by Summerfair artist exhibitors. Grab the kids and head down to the Cincinnati Museum Center for this adventure-filled day crawling with bugs, bugs, and, you guessed it, more bugs. From cockroach racing and insect trivia to meeting some of the largest live insects on the planet, Bugfest will give you an up-close-and-personal arthropod experience. This Memorial Day, get your race on to support the Freestore Foodbank and other organizations working to provide meals to the hungry in our community.
