Switch is Changing Things Up with a New Furniture Store

Home décor enthusiasts will soon have a new place to hang out and pretend to live (I can’t be the only one who does that): Vine Street trailblazers Switch Lighting and Design are planning to open an outpost on historic West 4th Street downtown, full of their signature contemporary lighting as well as a full range of complementary furnishings.

“Clients often ask us to participate in furniture selection as part of our overall design services,” says Bertie Ray III, co-owner. “Having our own furniture store rounds out what we do.”

The new store will carry lines from Italian design companies specializing in the kinds of modern, streamlined pieces that complement the condos and apartments popping up in around the central business district. According to Ray, the idea is to offer décor that is “very polished and well crafted, at an accessible price point.”

Ray and co-owner Drew Dearwester are planning to take over the entire four-story building at 312 West 4th Street, with furniture showrooms on the first and second floors, office/working space on the 3rd floor, and fully furnished corporate apartments on the top level. The apartments will be decorated with Switch furniture, of course. “This part of an overall strategy,” says Ray of the store slated to open this Fall.

I can’t wait to pretend to move in.
