Your shop has a great  blend of vintage, modern, and handmade. How do you describe your style? Customized. I cut apart, remake, and tailor most of my clothes—pairing classic basics with modern cuts and putting together unusual color combinations and patterns that aren’t obvious choices at first, but that work. One of my favorite statements from a friend: “Those stripes don’t go together at all!” It was a compliment.

Where do you shop for your own wardrobe? Resale shops, thrift stores, auctions…I just bought some vintage fabric that the sellers referred to as a “rag.” It’s slated to become clothing of my own design.

You’re clearly not a copycat, but whose closet would you love to swipe? I don’t know if I could pull it off, but I admire the style and bravado of Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Something on your bookshelf right now? A Japanese Artist in London by Yoshio Markino.

What’s the best part of owning your own shop? Having all these beautiful, silly, and classic things pass through my stewardship, even briefly.
