In less than a year, bikini-clad and Oakley-spectacled athletes will battle in pairs for Olympic glory on the sands of Rio de Janeiro. This month, you can catch many of those same beach volleyball players at the AVP Cincinnati Open (Sept. 4–6) without shelling out the international airfare—or any money at all!

For the first time, general admission tickets are free for a tournament that has 1,200 tons of sand trucked in, allowing American medal-hopeful teams Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson (men’s) and Brooke Sweat and Lauren Fendrick (women’s) to bump, set, and spike on the “beaches” of Mason’s Lindner Family Tennis Center.
