Been wanting to explore East Walnut Hills since reading about all Woodburn Avenue has to offer? This Friday will be a perfectly festive time to do so: Walk on Woodburn is giving a nod to New Orleans and going all Mardi Gras. As always, shops and galleries will be open to visitors, but this month they’re also sponsoring some street-side entertainment.“Everyone seems to suffer from cabin fever around this time of year, and we don’t have a February Walk on Woodburn,” says Shawna Maria Guip, owner of Hi-Bred vintage boutique and lead organizer for the event. “We wanted to find something fun and exciting, and Mardi Gras is the best excuse to throw a party. Plus it’s a great way for all the East Walnut Hills businesses to collaborate and all really contribute something to an event.”NOLA-style jams, by way of The Hot Magnolias (at Black Rabbit Salon) and jazz violinist Ed Oxley (at Café DeSales), will set the tone, and the FOREALISM-TRIBE—you may have caught their cardboard-and-tin-clad costumed dancers at other events around town—is set to make a spirited appearance, as are models styled by Hi-Bred and Black Rabbit Salon.Sample some hurricane punch mixed by Molly Wellmann at Le Bon Vivant, or swing by the biergarten for a brew. And because the spicy food is half the fun, Kitchen 452 and the New Orleans to Go food truck will be serving up some po’ boys and other Cajun and Creole favorites.“It will be fun and festive, and we will be tossing out plenty of beads,” says Guip. “We’re encouraging people to come dressed up. But if you don’t have a costume, we will have face painting at Pique Galleria and mask-making for kids at Decoworks Studios.”A scavenger hunt will send participants from store to store looking for a small pink alligator hiding in each. At the end of the night, a drawing will be held in the biergarten to determine the winner of a gift basket packed full by all the local businesses.Friday, February 21, 6–9 pm. 2500-2800 Woodburn Ave., East Walnut Hills, (513) 240-4664, facebook.com/walkonwoodburn
