Worth The Drive: Southern Michigan Winter Beer Festival

113

If you’d rather tap kegs than trees, take yourself over to the Southern Michigan Winter Beer Festival in Jackson to sample more than 150 craft, import, and specialty beers from Michigan breweries. After all, it wasn’t nicknamed “The Great Beer State” without reason. Try Grand River Brewing’s Sappy Daze Maple Dark Strong for a maple-infused Belgian strong, or Mt. Pleasant’s Trainwreck Amber for a smooth and sweet ale. The annual festival, which is held at the Jackson County Fairgrounds (there will be bonfires, but dress warmly!), is in its fifth year and includes all your typical festival fare: plenty of finger food, live music, and—for those with an ultra-competitive streak—a featured corn hole competition. Cheers to that.

Tickets $25 in advance, $35 at the door; March 14, noon-5 pm, jacksoncountyfair.net/beerfest
