If you’re looking for a different class of cocktail, then Sundry and Vice will fix you up. Head of Operations and Design Julia Petiprin brings West Coast refinement to her program of classic concoctions inspired by pre-Prohibition apothecaries.

When did you catch the cocktailing bug? I was living in downtown Los Angeles in 2009. There were all these well-curated spirit lists and people really caring about the craft of creating quality cocktails. I got involved in the community of bartenders doing this; I saw them being recognized, making careers.

What’s hard about the job? When you’re a young person, you have to learn to cut people off. It’s tough. But there is a point when they ask and you have to say Why don’t you start with this water and we’ll see how it goes? But people don’t come to Sundry and Vice to get wasted.

What do you think about your adopted home? Cincinnati is a super special city. People appreciate things here. In L.A., everybody’s seen everything and done everything—or they pretend that they have. People here are going to start recognizing that they deserve quality and attention to detail.
