Spotted: Grrrl Power!

111

Ever wonder what would happen if you brought a bunch of Cincinnati’s most talented female chefs and mixed-media artists together to fight domestic violence? Scary awesome grrrrrl power with plenty of delicious food and beautiful, one-of-a-kind creations, that’s what.

Last year, while our sons played together at a playground, Frannie Kroner (executive chef at Sleepy Bee Café) asked me if I’d help her coordinate a “lady chef dinner.” I agreed, and suggested that we bring in organizational mastermind (and owner of eat well catering) Renee Schuler. Together, the three of us convinced fellow female chefs, sommeliers, and artists to join us in raising money for the YWCA’s Hamilton County domestic violence shelter. This facility is the only domestic violence facility in the county and provides help for up to 55 women and children at a time. Employment resources, children’s programming, and a 24-hour multi-lingual crisis line are also available.

Showcase: Dinner for a Cause will take place on Sunday, August 24 at Sleepy Bee Café in Oakley. Tickets for a seven-course dinner (including wine pairings) are $130 and available for purchase here. Each table will feature a mixed media centerpiece, created by a local female artist, that will be available for purchase. The evening will conclude with an auction of artworks by the participating female artists. To view the artworks in advance—they will be on display from August 8 through 23—visit studio onelone at Brazee Street Studios.
