The quirkiful Over-the-Rhine neighborhood festival known as Second Sunday On Main gears up for its 7th season of fun, food, art, and entertainment this Sunday June 10th, and continues monthly through October 14th. One of the featured events is the Celebrity Chef Demo, a cooking class led by one or more popular local chefs. This Sunday kicks off with Chef Jose Salazar and Pastry Chef Russ Wheeler of The Palace at The Cincinnatian Hotel. Guests of this free event get up close and personal with the chefs as they prepare a dish, then enjoy it with a glass of wine expecially selected by City Cellars. Seating is on a first-come basis; no reservations are taken. This is a wildly popular event with standing room only crowds of 50 – 70 ppl., so get there early. Demo begins at 2pm; the doors open at 1:30pm.

Got Lemons? You know what to do. Le’s Cafe, which for years was tucked into a corner of the Main Library, unexpectedly lost their lease agreement this past spring. Initially, when I first talked with owners Hai Bui and his wife Le in March, they were distraught and uncertain what they could afford to do, if anything. But grace happens and new doors open. The growing corrider of international flavor on East Court Street will welcome Le’s Pho and Sandwich Shop near the end of June. In addition to the pork banh mi they’ve been known for, Hai and Le plan to serve both Vietnamese and American soups, salads, and sandwiches. You’ll be able to enjoy their fare from 11am-4p Monday through Saturday.
Metropole will be the name of the new restaurant located in the 21c Hotel, the award-winning boutique hotel and contemoporary art museum currently under construction on Walnut Street. Named for the historic former Metropole Hotel, the restaurant will be under the leadership of Chef Michael Paley, who brought national attention – including a nod from Esquire Magazine as “Best New Restaurant of 2006” – to the 21c’s Louisville restaurant Proof On Main. At Metropole, Paley will continue to showcase the bounty of the Ohio River Valley while focusing on Cincinnati’s German and European heritage with dishes cooked in a custom-built hearth.
