Brunch Report: Wunderbar!

431

When you’re looking to get your German on, bypass the themed joints and tuck into Covington’s Wunderbar. While not technically subterranean, its dim interior—coupled with an enviable stein collection and some of tastiest sausage offerings outside the Vaterland (not to mention that vintage Volkwagen bus front-end)—makes for a reasonable departure from your average Midwestern watering hole. And while we love their curry wurst, not to mention that freak-of-nature Küchenspüle burger, we made a mad dash for Lee Street when we discovered they were serving brunch.

Wunderbar

And true to form, it was wunderbar. A classic order-at-the-bar set-up with generous portions of biscuits and gravy, cooked to order eggs, and crispy bacon piled high was aptly dubbed the Hungry Man. Or sample the raspberry Danish French toast, a cross-cultural masterpiece that, if eaten with any regularity, can only lead to an eventual diabetic coma. The coffee was strong, as were the Bloody Marys and craft beers. This might just be ground zero for your next Sunday morning hair of the dog.
