Today is a momentous day in the American craft brew world. There are now 2,000 craft breweries in the United States, enough to pop open a new beer by a new American brewer every single evening for the next 6 years. Of course, not all of those breweries are good, which is the really good news about so many breweries—it’s a diverse lot. A new brewery today better be able to make a damn fine beer if they want to hold market share against the coming hordes of other brewers, and that makes for better beer all around. So here’s to local breweries Mt. Carmel, Rivertown, Listermann, Christian Moerlein, Great Crescent, Red Ear, and Blank Slate. Happy to have you here.
With 2,000 breweries, picking a drink can be tough—I suffer from temporary paralysis everytime I walk into the Party Source in Bellevue. But more often than not, I leave with something made by Shiner, which has become my go-to brewery for moderately priced, great-tasting beer. Today, I caught wind of a new Shiner brew. Wild Hare Pale Ale. I look forward to grabbing a six-pack very soon.
