Local Eateries Get Nod From Martha Stewart’s American Made Awards

Three local bakeries are getting national attention for their handcrafted baked goods.

Martha Stewart named Sweet Petit Desserts, Grateful Grahams, and Blue Oven Bakery as national finalists for its American Made Awards (in the ever-competitive Sweets & Baked Goods category). The contest was created to celebrate the country’s small businesses through highlighting the creativity and craftsmanship of a new breed of entrepreneurs.

The winners of each category will be decided through a combination of judge selections and public voting, which will take place through Oct. 13. You may vote up to six times a day at the Martha Stewart/American Made website.

Ten winners will be announced, each receiving a trip to New York City to attend the American Made event, $10,000 to grow their business, and a feature in Martha Stewart Living magazine.

Here are the hometown spots that made the list:
Blue Oven Bakery

Peace, sensitivity to the community, respect, and hard work are the keys to this bakery’s philosophy—that and baking incredible fresh bread.

You can find their products in their very own Blue Oven Food Truck at various farmers markets throughout the area and at Jungle Jim’s in Eastgate. Location offerings vary by day, so check their website before heading out.

Grateful Grahams

Rachel DesRochers started baking graham crackers out of her Linwood home four years ago, fine-tuning her recipe to be vegan friendly in accordance with her father’s new diet. She soon branched out and began selling her goods at local stores and markets.

She also sized up: You can now find DesRochers—along with her five employees—producing about 10,000 graham crackers a week at their Covington facility. The crackers are now available at various stores and coffee shops across the country.

Sweet Petit

Taren Kinebrew opened up shop in 2009 to fulfill a passion for cooking that she learned from her grandmother.

Now, Sweet Petit serves a variety of treats made from scratch with the finest ingredients, including everything from cheesecake cake pops to chocolate-covered Oreos.

Sweet Petit provides treats for individual customers and social events. You can stop in at the charming storefront in Over-the-Rhine at 1426 Race St., or request an order online.
