So many are eating here, but nobody’s ordering the chili. I don’t believe it’s a comment on the chili quality. I think it’s the temptation of everything else. Like the Create Your Own Double Decker, the Perfect Cut Rib Eye Steak, the Greek Omelette, the Chocolate Covered Baklava, or the enticing goetta. No wait. Goetta’s not really enticing, is it? Well, it is homemade and the people who order it are coveting it, so there must be some wonderful quality about it. The chili at Price Hill Chili is served in all the Cincinnati Chili Commission– regulated ways. What, you didn’t know we had a Chili Commission? OK, maybe not officially, but it’s certainly a good rumor to start, and it miffs the Texans something fierce. The chili here has the standard toppings, but when the order’s-up bell dings, it’s the BLT-fried-egg double decker or the Big Sam double burger platter coming out of the kitchen. So the Covedale Conundrum continues. Price Hill Chili is no tiny place. It’s big enough that you could meet someone for breakfast and not run across them until dinner. It has even consumed the Golden Fleece Lounge next door. The reputation is above reproach. Even the customers sitting here say the chili is the best. So why is a legendary chili restaurant not inundated with chili orders? Could it be that it’s 6:30 in the morning? Maybe. But let’s not ruin a perfectly good mystery with fact.
