Tour de KitchenAid

209

Listen up, home cooking aficionados. The Mecca of kitchen appliances is just more than an hour and a half from your doorstep, so if you haven’t done so already, it’s time to make the pilgrimage to the KitchenAid Experience Retail Center.

Located in historic Greenville, Ohio, in a renovated pre-1900s hotel, KitchenAid has produced its iconic stand mixers from this location since 1908. Visitors can call ahead to schedule a factory tour to watch the assembling—from soup to nuts—of the appliance that graces countertops across America.

Check out the on-site museum to see KitchenAid artifacts and advertisements, as well as the evolution of the stand mixer from the 68-pound 1920s model to the sleek, modern artisan design series.

The demo kitchen offers demonstrations so you can finally figure out how to use that pasta-making attachment you received three Christmases ago, and you can sign up for a cooking class on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays to learn even more techniques and tricks.

If you’re in the market for anything KitchenAid, the retail store offers all the colors, models, attachments, gadgets, or gizmos you could ask for, while the outlet store on the floor below markets refurbished versions at a lower price point. The center also has a repair service that’s stocked with skilled technicians ready to get your KitchenAid appliance back to the grinding, churning, stirring, blending, chopping, or mixing that it’s supposed to do.

The Retail Center is open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and factory tours typically run Tuesday through Friday at 12:30 p.m.
