In her acceptance speech for the Golden Globe for Best Television Series (Comedy or Musical), Transparent producer and writer Jill Soloway paid tribute to Leelah Alcorn, the local transgender teen whose December suicide brought national attention to trans issues: “This award is dedicated to the memory of Leelah Alcorn, and too many trans people who die too young,” said Soloway.

Transparent tells the story of a Los Angeles family who discovers that their father, played by Jeffrey Tambor, is transgender. Tambor also took home the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy for his role in the show. Transparent has been renewed for a second season by Amazon Studios.
