Martha: A Story of Extinction

64

Passenger pigeons were once so abundant they filled the skies of North America and could block out the sun. Alas, Martha, the last of her breed, died Sept. 1, 1914, at the Cincinnati Zoo. Her body was immediately put on ice and shipped to the Smithsonian, where she still resides more than a century after her death. The Cincinnati Museum Center tells the story of Martha and her long-lost species in the new exhibition, Martha: A Story of Extinction.

Opens Dec 6, Cincinnati Museum Center, cincymuseum.org
