In Verdi's heartrending tragedy, the courtesan Violetta is tempted from a life of luxury by impetuous declarations of love from the young Alfredo. Their romantic idyll is cruelly interrupted by the demands of his father, even as her time grows short. The world-renowned husband-and-wife team of Ailyn Pérez and Stephen Costello, both recipients of opera's prestigious Richard Tucker Award, returns to Cincinnati Opera following their debuts in La Bohème (2010). Marco Caria rounds out the stunning young cast, in a refined production from the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Carlo Montanaro wields the baton. Tickets and more info: 513-241-2742 or cincinnatiopera.org.
