Quakers: Movers, Not Shakers

Covington isn’t the only bicentennial in 2015. Local Quakers belonging to the Cincinnati Friends Meeting celebrate 200 years this month, and are using the occasion to dispel some long-standing misconceptions. “We aren’t the guy on the Quaker Oats box,” says Sabrina Darnowsky, author of Friends Past & Present. “A lot of people confuse Quakers with Shakers, too.” In fact, Quakers have been one of the more progressive factions in the region since the early 1800s. “We are less focused on what a person believes and more on how they live their life,” says Darnowsky.
