The Lack of the Irish

100

You know the Irish Blessing: May the road rise to meet you  . . .  et cetera, et cetera. Apparently there’s an Irish curse, too. But it’s not something you’d put on an inspirational poster. At least that’s according to The Irish Curse, a raw comedy about a support group for men with small penises. This theoretically Celtic trait is the subject of their bellyaching when they get together to air their insecurities, a self-help effort that takes place in a church basement.

Clifton Players is tackling the production (which is—do I even have to say this?—for mature audiences). The cast of five includes Michael Bath, Kevin Crowley, and Buz Davis—veteran performers who, in my opinion, don’t ever get enough time on local stages; I’d go see them in just about anything.

The show opens tomorrow (February 28) and runs through March 15 at Clifton Performance Theater, the subterranean storefront venue on Ludlow Avenue. So it’s a play that is set in a basement and it’s being performed in a basement. Cool, huh? Anyhow, it’s a find-your-own-seat kind of place that fills fast once the word gets out about a production. Brown Paper Tickets is handling advance sales.
