This month Peter Frampton releases a CD of his music for the Cincinnati Ballet. Other highlights from the marriage of ballet and pop:

1974: Iggy Pop performs in Wayne, Michigan, wearing a tutu and ballet slippers. Gets beaten up.

Circa 1977: Meatloaf declares “I am the Nureyev of rock and roll.”

1988: British band The Fall record the soundtrack to a ballet about William of Orange.

2009: Lady Gaga performs with the Bolshoi Ballet in Los Angeles, while playing a pink grand piano designed by Damien Hirst.

2014: New York City Ballet’s Justin Peck suggests creating a ballet for Beyoncé to dance.
