Consistency. “The biggest secret to winning is just staying consistent and staying in the middle of the board, whether they are going in or not.”
Hand-eye coordination. “Before I won my first title, I had pitched horseshoes for 16 years with my father. It’s got to feel natural.”
Spin the bag. “The biggest rookie mistake is not spinning the bag. With no clockwise rotation on it, it’s gonna jump left or right [when it lands].”
Smack is whack. “There are guys who will try to talk trash before their games. My strategy to get into their head is to just keep putting it in the hole.”
Do your homework. “Warm up on the boards. You have to consider weather, temperature, humidity—they all play into the way the bag slides in. And if it’s just guys asking their buddies to bring their boards from home, you don’t know what you’ll get. Adjusting to the board is a huge part of the game.”
