Open: Huit Craft BBQ
Whoa, put down that brown bag. There’s a killer new lunch spot downtown. Huit, a tiny craft barbecue joint, just opened on Court Street and was bursting at the seams at lunchtime today. We elbowed our way in, planning to grab a few sandwiches. Instead, we sat down to platters of some of the best pan-Asian-inspired barbecue I’ve eaten. Eight spice (at least cinnamon, allspice, and clove were obviously involved) baby back ribs arrived with just enough char and practically melted in my mouth. The grilled sriracha mayo corn on the cob made elotes seem so last season. The mayo brings just enough heat to play against the natural sweetness—but doesn’t mask the freshness of the corn with too much cheese. Curry-roasted cauliflower and a kale salad with tahini dressing and quinoa sprinkles were full-flavored and inventive sides that I’d return and order on their own. Sandwiches are available as well, with a BBQ Tofu option for the vegetarians. While they’re only doing weekday lunches at the moment, the management plans to expand to weekends, and eventually evenings. We think you’re hot, hot, Huit!
