Hooray Beer!

155

Local beer. Local beer as far as the eye can see.

That’s what you’ll get this Saturday at Listermann Brewing Company’s inaugural Volksfest. Well, that and all of the Cincinnati-infused-Germania (Lederhosen!) you can handle.

“Volksfest is a festival for the people of Cincinnati,” says Listermann’s Chris Mitchell (Volk literally translates to ‘people’ in German). “We’ve got all of the microbreweries in town coming up.”

He’s not lying. Blank Slate, Fifty West, Christian Moerlein, Rock Bottom, Rivertown, Mt. Carmel, MadTree, Cellar Dweller, Wiedemann, Quaff Bros, Rhinegeist, Triple Digit, and Listermann will all be there.

With the event sponsored by the German-American Citizens League of Greater Cincinnati, numerous bands slotted to preform, and a slew of food trucks and vendors already en route to Listerman’s, you can expect a miniature, local-brewery-exclusive Oktoberfest feel—and a damn good time.

They’ll be kicking off the event at 9 a.m. (with kegs and eggs, naturally), and the doors won’t close until 11 p.m. Don’t miss the ceremonial tapping of Listermann Volksfest Lager at 4 p.m.

“It’s a true, authentic German Dortmunder (a slightly bitter, very aromatic golden-style lager),” says Kevin Moreland, head brewer for Listermann and Cellar Dweller. “Not many breweries around here do that style of beer because of how long it takes to make.”

Three words: Bring. Your. Growler. Volksfest Lager won’t be coming back again and, with Moreland expecting to see 5,000-6,000 people come out to the event on Saturday, there won’t be much left.
