Dinner and a Trolley

Cincinnati’s dining scene is indeed blowing up, but don’t forget about the culinary institutions that have kept this city happily fed for more than a century. To that end, save the date for a progressive dinner tour designed around Cincinnati’s pre-Prohibition dining establishments.

 Start your tour at the Washington Platform Saloon and Restaurant, opened in 1875, for artichoke and smoked oyster Hickory Dip. Then hop on the old-timey horse-drawn trolley to visit the next location, Scotti’s, where you can savor salad and minestrone by candlelight in the quaint 100-year-old Vine Street dining room. Next, head to Arnold’s Bar and Grill, Cincinnati’s oldest tavern, for a comfort food carb fest. One of your options, the saucy, garlicky, bacon-ey Greek Deluxe pasta, has been on the menu since 1957. That’s after Prohibition, of course. But it’s still a good long time ago.

 You can finish out your tour with the trolley ride, but we recommend that you start walking off that food coma for the last stop: Campanello’s and their homemade tiramisu, chocolate cake, and cannoli.
