Who says all the fun is in OTR? One of my favorite, kid-friendly breakfast-lunch spots in the city is Rascals’ NY Deli, located deep in the ’burbs just up Kenwood Road from the Towne Centre. One bite of their hot brisket and coleslaw sandwich ($10.75), and you’ll know exactly what I’m rattling on about. A few nibbles into their smoked sablefish (flown in regularly from Brooklyn), layered lovingly on a bagel made by their Blue Ash neighbor, John Marx ($12.95), and you’ll be rolling your eyes and nodding in agreement. Don’t even attempt the three kings ($11.50)—a double-decker of corned beef, pastrami, and chopped liver on house rye—unless you’ve brought your A-game appetite and have time for a post-prandial power nap. Sure, they’ve got scrambles and hash too. Complementary pickles are garlicy and crisp, Dr. Brown’s sodas are pre-chilled, and the applesauce (for the must-try latkes) is made inhouse. The service is never anything but warm and effusive. What the hell are you waiting for?
