Move over, rooster, Ohio’s got its own housemade sriracha sauce. In 2012, Dayton chef Lee Anne House started whipping up her own signature hot sauces. The sriracha sauce was so well received that that she decided to start bottling with Garden Harvest in Wellston, Ohio. Since winning first place in The Big Pitch, a food business accelerator, House has taken her production to the next level, employing culinary students at the Ohio Jobs Center (in Dayton) to meet demand. Earlier this year, her sauce took first place in the Cajun Hot Sauce Festival in Louisiana. The “Ohio-Proud” affiliated sauce can be found locally at Picnic and Pantry, Silverglade’s (Findlay Market), and The Party Source.
I cracked open a bottle at breakfast this morning to drizzle on a few scrambled eggs. Slightly sweeter than the Thai original, it’s also a few degrees hotter. Being able to support a local, woman-owned business that gives back to the community is always high priority for me, but especially when the product is this good. Grab a bottle and turn up the heat in your kitchen.
