Open: La Soupe

Suzy DeYoung spent 20 years behind the stove of her elegant catering company, La Petite Pierre, envisioning what it would be like to run a soup kitchen. Today, that dream becomes a reality with the opening of La Soupe, her French roadside soup shack that donates a bowl of soup (for every quart sold) to individuals who truly need it. DeYoung, who based her business model on the successful Tom’s Shoes, spends weekdays making nourishing soups and broths from ingredients often donated by local farms and grocers. DeYoung is one of four professional chefs in two generations of her family. Her father, Pierre Adrian, was the Alsatian-born chef who captured the first Mobil five-star rating for Maisonette. The well-appointed shop, with its open, industrial kitchen, serves the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11:30 am to 7 pm.
