Rising From the Ashes
In late July, The Phoenix Restaurant announced it had hired Jeremy Luers to be executive chef and culinary operating partner. According to the press release, “Jeremy will be working to revamp existing catering and event menus, as well as developing a new menu for the relaunch,” which is scheduled for late 2013 or early 2014. Luers, who most recently helmed the kitchen at Enoteca Emilia, had been planning to open Madison Public House in the former Boca space in Oakley until The Phoenix came calling.
The Chef Tango
With Owen Maass out at Cumin, Matthew Cranert takes over as executive chef. Cranert had served as executive chef at M, Cumin’s sister restaurant.
Josh Campbell may have closed Mayberry, but he’s still cooking—he’s joined Lavomatic.
A Sweet Expansion
Schneider’s Sweet Shop in Bellevue has demolished the vacant building next door and will expand (and add a patio) by next summer. The Kentucky institution celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2014. Follow the renovations on the Schneider’s Facebook page.
OpenTable announced their list of the Top 100 Scenic Restaurants in the United States, and two Cincinnati favorites made the list: The Celestial Steakhouse and Primavista. The list is based on reviews submitted to OpenTable by diners.
Bon Appetit Takes Notice (Sort of)
The September issue of Bon Appetit features the Hot 10 2013, a list of the 10 best new restaurants in America, compiled by restaurant and drinks editor Andrew Knowlton. No local restaurants made the final cut. So why mention it? Metropole, in the 21c Hotel, cracked the magazine’s list of 50 finalists for the top honors. We’re guessing this is one of those times when it’s an honor just to be nominated.
Camp Washington Chili landed a spot on Smithsonian Magazine's list of The 20 Most Iconic Food Destinations Across America, alongside The Varsity in Atlanta, St. Elmo's Steak House in Indianapolis, and Primanti Brothers in Pittsburgh.
